Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov

Dean - Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Tkachuk Vsevolod Arsenievich

The Faculty of Fundamental Medicine was created in 1992. Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor O.S. was appointed dean-organizer of the recreated medical faculty of Moscow University. Medvedev. Since 2000, the faculty has been headed by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.A. Tkachuk.

At first, the faculty only trained doctors (specialty “General Medicine”), but since 2008 it has also taught the specialty “Pharmacy.” The duration of training in both specialties is 6 years. Upon graduation from the faculty, a graduate with a specialty in general medicine is awarded the qualification “doctor,” and a graduate with a specialty in “pharmacy” is awarded the qualification of a pharmacist. The insert for the diploma reflects the specifics of specialist training at the FFM MSU.

Thanks to the concentration of the best scientific and pedagogical personnel at Moscow State University, a future doctor or pharmacist can receive a full-fledged fundamental education in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. It is this feature of university education that explains the name of the newly created faculty - fundamental medicine. Education in clinical disciplines is provided to medical students by the best clinical centers in Moscow. Graduates of the faculty become doctors capable of engaging in both clinical practice and medical science.

The faculty has 16 departments and 6 research laboratories:

  • Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology;
  • Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine;
  • Department of Internal Medicine;
  • Department of Medical Biophysics;
  • Department of Multidisciplinary Clinical Training;

  • Central Design Bureau No. 1 of JSC Russian Railways;
  • Central Clinical Hospital of Civil Aviation, as well as city hospitals No. 31, 29, 15, 64.

There are cooperation agreements with

  • First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov;
  • Russian National Research Medical University named after N.I. Pirogov;
  • Faculty of Medicine of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

Since 2014, one of the main clinical bases of the faculty has become the new educational and scientific medical center of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov.

The teaching of disciplines at the faculty is carried out at a high scientific and methodological level. The faculty’s computer network allows for lectures to be held using multimedia systems, international video conferences and webinars provide a modern level of research work. The departments of the faculty conduct research on current problems of medicine: gene cell therapy, regenerative medicine, perinatology, adaptology, extreme medicine. New diagnostic and treatment methods, new drugs and devices are the result of the development of these scientific areas.

From the junior year of study, students of the faculty are taught the skills of conducting biomedical research. First-year students take part in student conferences and make review reports on problems that interest them. In the third and fourth years, students are required to complete a short scientific work in one of the fundamental disciplines: molecular medicine, physiology and general pathology, pharmacology or medical biophysics. The results of this practical work are presented in the form of a poster presentation. The authors of the best works speak at the conference of young scientists at Moscow State University and other Russian universities.

The student scientific circle on surgery is very popular. Its participants have repeatedly won prizes at student surgical Olympiads. By the end of the fifth year, students report for coursework, which they perform in clinical institutions, scientific laboratories and departments of the faculty. Graduates defend their diploma theses as part of the final state certification. The best scientific works of faculty students annually receive diplomas and medals at international scientific conferences and competitions.

Good afternoon

I am interested in enrolling in a second higher education degree in General Medicine. What course are you enrolled in and is it possible to transfer some subjects if several years have passed after graduation? Also interested in the passing score upon admission.

Thank you in advance.

07/22/2019 | dean's office

Good morning, Victoria! Every year, 3-5 people enter our FFM for a second higher education. You will have to enroll in the 1st year and pass an internal exam in CHEMISTRY. Less than 40 points in chemistry is considered an unsatisfactory grade. If you are admitted, an individual schedule is drawn up for you, taking into account previously passed subjects with “good” and “excellent” marks.

Hello.

I found information on the Internet about the “Future Doctor” Club of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov https://www.ucheba.ru/article/3479#

But, unfortunately, this course is not available this semester. I would like this course to be resumed next semester.

Our whole class is interested in this because... We have a biology class and many want to become doctors. We are from Vladimir, if this program can be implemented in one day it would be very good.

08/01/2015 | dean's office Faculty of Fundamental Medicine

Hello, Alena! All Medical Universities do not have graduate departments, like other natural science faculties of Moscow State University. In order to become a neurosurgeon, you need to obtain a medical diploma after six years of study, then complete a general residency in surgery, and then spend another two years studying in a specialized residency in neurosurgery. The FFM has good contacts with the N.N. Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery, some of our graduates work there.

Hello, Anastasia! I can’t answer about the Faculty of Biology, but at the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine we have a PHARMACY department, the training period is SIX years and we train not just pharmacists, but research pharmacists. If you are interested in this direction, then you must win a budget place in the competition (the competition is more than 10 people per one budget place). To do this, you need to provide high results in four Unified State Examinations: MATHEMATICS, RUSSIAN LANGUAGE, BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY and pass a written four-hour exam in CHEMISTRY at Moscow State University in the summer. If you successfully pass the competition, then by order of the Rector you will be enrolled in the first year, and then we will personally deal with your academic certificate - which subjects passed with “good” and “excellent” can be re-credited.

The Faculty of Fundamental Medicine has taken a leading position among Russian medical universities graduating doctors. Graduates of the faculty with a specialty in general medicine have the right to engage in medical practice and specialize in their chosen clinical discipline. Like pharmacists, they can enroll in graduate school in biomedical fields or engage in research work in an area of interest to them.

In 1992, the rectorate and the Academic Council of MSU named after M.V. Lomonosov decided to open the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine, thereby restoring medical education within the University.

The educational program at the faculty is designed to train specialists with university-level knowledge in natural and general biological disciplines: mathematics, physics, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics. Much attention is paid to learning a foreign language and mastering modern information technologies in medicine.

Humanitarian subjects - history of the Fatherland, philosophy, political science, medical and biological ethics, history of medicine, fundamentals of pedagogy and psychology, legal foundations of a doctor - students study at the relevant faculties of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University and from authoritative specialists from other scientific and educational institutions.

Clinical bases that provide all the conditions for a full study of clinical disciplines in accordance with current standards for medical faculties are: medical institutions of the Main Medical Directorate of the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Moscow Medical Academy named after. THEM. Sechenov, Center for Family Planning and Reproduction, Scientific Center for Neurology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Glavmosstroy Hospital, Moscow Regional Clinical Institute (MONIKI), Moscow City Clinical Hospitals.

The Faculty of Fundamental Medicine of Moscow State University is the largest medical educational and scientific institution in Russia, aimed at preparing, certifying and training doctors and pharmacists, thereby contributing to the further development of medical science and healthcare both domestically and globally.

In 1992, reviving university traditions of medical education, the Academic Council and the Rectorate decided to open the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine at Moscow State University.

Medical training at Moscow State University is based on modern technologies combined with high-tech methods of practical medicine, which allows medical professionals to be competitive and flexible in the international market.

Initially, the university provided education only to doctors, but since 2008 the specialty “Pharmacy” has also appeared. Graduates of this faculty receive the qualification of a doctor in the specialty of general medicine and the qualification of a pharmacist in the specialty of pharmacy.

The Pharmacy program includes a wide range of disciplines. Training is conducted at the departments:

The scientific circle on surgery provides the opportunity to participate in student surgical Olympiads.

What do students study?

The curriculum focuses on natural sciences and biology, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, genetics. Particular attention is paid to foreign languages and the medical application of information technology. The curriculum includes a number of courses in the humanities, taught by teachers from Moscow State University and other scientific and educational institutions: Russian history, philosophy, political science, biomedical ethics, history of medicine, fundamentals of pedagogy and psychology, legal aspects of medical practice. Students are provided with all the necessary conditions to have clinical training to the highest standards of medical education. Education is widely valued abroad.

The doors of the university are open to everyone who wants to become a qualified doctor or pharmacist in the specialty “General Medicine” and “Pharmacy”, respectively. Education meets the requirements and standards of the European Union.

The faculty includes 14 departments and 4 research laboratories:

During course work during the academic year, students practice in scientific research in leading clinics and laboratories in Moscow. Senior students have the opportunity to travel abroad to continue their studies and internships at European universities and research centers.

Medicine is a general science that includes a wide range of areas of study. For example, tropical medicine.

Tropical medicine is a branch of medicine that deals with health problems that occur uniquely, are more common, or prove more difficult to control in tropical and subtropical regions. Many infections and infestations that are classified as tropical diseases were endemic in countries located in the tropics, and this includes widespread epidemics such as malaria, Ebola and hookworm infections. Many of these diseases are controlled by medical medicine or even eliminated in developed countries as a result of improved housing conditions, nutrition, and sanitation.

Specializations

Pediatrics

When studying in pediatrics, special attention is paid to children's health in order to provide effective treatment. General pediatrics examines diseases such as diabetes, cystic fibrosis and tonsillitis.

Ophthalmology

This is medical and surgical eye diseases and their treatment. The range of diseases encountered in ophthalmology is wide and covers all age categories. Common issues include trauma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, and congenital and genetic eye problems.

Radiology

This medical specialty involves the use of various types of imaging technologies, including radiography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to diagnose and treat patients. Radiology can be vital in providing accurate and early diagnosis, which helps improve treatment prospects and is fundamental to the management of cancer care. Radiologists also play an important role in identifying the sources of diseases and reducing the risk of their further spread.

Anesthesia

This is that part of medical care that makes it possible to dull the patient’s sensations in a certain part of the body, or to cause complete unconsciousness. Anesthesia specialists (anesthesiologists) are important members of surgical teams and are also involved in developing treatments to relieve chronic pain. Particular attention is paid to pain relief in surgery. The specialty of an anesthesiologist combines a deep understanding of applied physiology and pharmacology with practical skills.

General practice

The university curriculum is aimed at the practical application of the knowledge acquired each year. The bulk of general practice is carried out during undergraduate training in hospitals, laboratories and during home visits. The physician draws on extensive knowledge of disease and must quickly and confidently assess the problem and choose the best course of action.
